Be Happy to Pay Just Your Own Apartment Bills!
A West African political asylee living with his family in a two-bedroom apartment in the Bronx was surprised to get an electricity bill for hundreds of dollars, rather than the $70 he was used to paying.
This was just the beginning. The cable and phone bills were next, and that electricity bill kept rising. According to The New York Times, the tenant's caseworker from the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York cracked the case. Apparently, the tenant's name, "Mamadou Diallo," is very popular among immigrants living in the Bronx, and the tenant was mistakenly confused with several of his namesakes. After nearly ten months, the caseworker got it all resolved.
