Amityville Horror

A couple and two children who rented a house in Amityville, New York are lucky to be alive after a gas explosion flattened their home Sunday night, destroying all their belongings and even their car, according to Newsday. The occupants had reportedly all left the house to call the police and fire department about a gas smell, and then the explosion occurred just as they walked back.

Miraculously, the couple and their children were uninjured by the blast, which showered the nearby area with glass, wood, and metal. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
