Digital TV Upgrade Gets Postponed
In September, I told you about the government's requirement that TV stations stop using the traditional analog method of transmitting signals and broadcast only in the digital format by February 17, 2009. This meant that if you had any analog TVs in your apartment, you had to take certain action, such as purchase a converter box or replace the set with a digital one, by tomorrow.
However, the government just decided to extend this deadline to June 12, 2009. So, if you've been putting off upgrading to digital TV or weren't aware of the switch, you'll probably have a few more months to get ready. (Some TV stations are still accomplishing the switch by the original deadline.)
For more information on what you might need to do, visit the National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) informative website. You can also check to see if your local stations are completing their upgrade by tomorrow's original deadline.
