Data Show Renters Prefer Clean Bathing Suits Over Wet Ones
When looking for rentals in 2008, renters appeared to care more about the basics than luxurious amenities, according to recently released data compiled by Rent.com.
Nearly 40% of apartment hunters wanted a rental with its own washer/dryer while only 9% searched for a place that boasts a swimming pool on premises. Hardwood floors were a factor in only 4% of searches, while the least desired amenity was a walk-in closet, representing only 1% of searches.
Which amenities are important to you when conducting an apartment search?

These findings are right in line with what we’re seeing in the central Texas market. Maybe it’s the economy at work, but renters are “back to basics” with price, up front costs, rental concessions and little extras like a washer/dryer in the unit as the main concerns. It seems no one considers the luxurious, lagoon-style pool when they’re trying to save a few bucks!
Austin,
Thanks for that info about the central Texas market. I think it’s the sluggish economy plus the uncertainty of the economy’s direction and how fast it will recover that’s playing a role in many apartment hunters’ decisions across the country.
