Has the struggling economy made you a better friend of your apartment this summer? According to an Apartments.com national survey released yesterday, renters have been cutting costs during these warmer months by staying close to home. Of more than 1,000 renters surveyed, 55% said they are traveling less and spending more time in their apartments this summer than in previous years.

The survey also found that apartment dwellers who are staying close to home rank the following among the top summer-related apartment amenities: air conditioning; a balcony, deck, patio, porch or yard; an on-site swimming pool; an in-unit washer and dryer; and Internet access.

Have you been spending more time in your apartment this summer because of the economy? Which summer-friendly amenities does your building offer, and which ones do you value the most?
