Thanks to a federal law passed earlier this year, apartment tenants may stay in their home for 90 days or possibly much longer if their landlord can't pay the mortgage and their building goes into foreclosure. Your right to stay in your apartment after a foreclosure depends on whether you have a lease.

Hopefully, your building will never go into foreclosure, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared by knowing your rights as a tenant should such an undesirable event happen.
