Great article. I find that a lot of newly built apartments tend to have open plan kitchen and living room – and that it also seems a trend to have a big studio rather than a 1 bedroom apartment, even though the size sq ft.
Personally I think the open plans can be a great thing, but not very practical. If you’re single and can run everything your own way, fine with studios. But if there’s two of you (or having guests) you need to take more of consideration. TV, music, coocking…most things makes noice and would disturb the second half.
I believe that a studio apartment is a ideal choice for couples due to the large amount of open space but a one bedroom apartment is a better fit for families due to the separate bedroom .
I have seen many studio apartments that are actually just as large as the one bedroom apartments I was considering. I found that the studio apartments are generally much cheaper. Just as long as you don’t mind the more open floorplan in studio apartments. Especially here in Rochester, NY.
