With Halloween approaching, Wakefield Research, on behalf of Rent.com, conducted a "Rent in Peace" online survey revealing Americans' worst rental horror stories.
Among the scary findings, when it comes to "nightmare roommates," 35% of the 1,000 respondents said the worst roommate is one who leaves the living room or kitchen messy, while 34% said it's someone who uses others' things without permission. An additional 13% griped about roommates who insist on blasting music, 11% complained about roommates whose significant other is always around, and 6% hated when a roommate eats their food.
As for the apartments themselves, many respondents reported similarly frightening experiences. Nearly 40% of renters claimed to have endured "creepy or annoying neighbors," 13% have had problems with a broken front door or lock, and 26% complained of insect or mice problems.
