Very often, tenants get threatened with eviction from their apartments for nonpayment of rent. But some tenants in this situation who live at an Omaha, Nebraska complex are expressing frustration and outrage, claiming they've been paying their apartment rent all along.

If that's true, then why are these apartment dwellers at risk of losing their homes?

The tenants allegedly paid their rent each month in cash but can't prove it because they didn't get receipts. Also, the prior manager who collected the rent (and reportedly suggested that tenants pay in cash because it would be easier) won't clear their names.

Without any record of payments, the landlord has decided to pursue evictions as well as obtain court orders to recover back rent, plus late fees, according to a report from WOWT.com, a local NBC affiliate.

Worried this could happen to you? Take precautions to avoid pitfalls when paying rent in cash.
