The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and the University of Kentucky yesterday released the findings of their "2010 Comprehensive Global Bed Bug Study," based on responses from nearly 1,000 U.S. and international pest management companies.
Unless you like bedbugs, the news isn't good.
A whopping 95% of U.S. survey respondents indicated that their company has encountered a bedbug infestation in the past year. Contrast this to 2000, when only 25% of U.S. survey respondents reported a bedbug infestation.
Bedbugs, which are often found in apartment buildings, hotels, and other places where people gather, are tiny and like to hide during the daytime, making them difficult to identify. If bitten, you'll be left with an unsightly welt and possibly experience an allergic reaction.
You can read highlights from the survey at the NPMA's Web site, as well as get more useful information on bedbugs.
Has your apartment building, or any building you've lived in, had a bedbug problem? What did you or your landlord do to fight the infestation?
