Four years and only $147 is what it took a man in Zhengzhou, China to build a 50-square-foot apartment six meters below his yard. The man, a 64-year-old former miner, was motivated by a desire to create affordable housing for his family, according to a report from China Daily.
Now that local media outlets have exposed the secret apartment, authorities are investigating what they call "the first case of its kind in the city," attempting to determine whether the unusual apartment conforms to code.
