Insuring Your Stuff While Away at School

If you're going to college and will be living away from home, do you need to worry about insuring your belongings against theft or damage? Does it matter if you're living in a dorm or in an off-campus apartment?

The Insurance Information Insititute (I.I.I.) recently issued a press release addressing these questions and others that college students and their parents are likely to have about insurance.

The I.I.I. also offers useful advice, such as creating a "dorm inventory" of all personal items and their estimated value. Having such a list will help determine the amount of insurance you might need as well as get claims settled more quickly.
