The Awkard Money Talk Between Roommates

How to split rent? This is often an awkward conversation between roommates—especially if you're already good friends. Discussions about money are difficult, because they touch on possibly sensitive issues—such as financial background, job and salary, etc. It's easy to tie money to your sense of worth and accomplishment. The thing to remember is that money does not represent you. You should not judge yourself or judge others for their financial preferences. By remembering that, you can then be honest and straightforward about how much you're willing to pay and what you think is fair. This is a good thing to keep in mind when discussing how much to spend on common expenses, such as cable, household supplies, and food.
