An Apartment That is Full of SurprisesFinally, after the tedious and time-consuming task of going through countless apartment listings, I had found it! The perfect apartment. So, my boyfriend and I packed up the car and set out to Pittsburgh. When we arrived at the apartment, we were shown around by the owner. I loved it! Hardwood floors, great light, old, artsy. It was perfect. My boyfriend was not as convinced, but he was tired of looking and liked the location. So we left to talk it over. For whatever reason, my boyfriend was very itchy. We thought he might be having some kind of allergic reaction to something in the building, because it was so old, but it was quickly forgotten. We called and signed the lease. A couple of weeks later, my boyfriend went back to check out the apartment again. Later that day, I got a call from him. He was hysterical as if he had been through some kind of war. It turned out that the reaction was not an allergic reaction at all. Our apartment was infested with fleas! My poor boyfriend was covered in them when he walked into the apartment the second time. Apparently, the former tenant had many pets. The infestation was taken care of. And everything was bright and sunny again (with a few minor scars). About a month later, I was sitting at my computer in the office area of the apartment, when I heard the sound of water dripping. I looked outside to see whether it was raining, but everything was fine, gray and cold. So I went to look in my bathroom, thinking maybe the faucet or shower was running. The entire ceiling was dripping with water. It was raining in my bathroom! Everything was soaked. Water was dripping onto the hardwood floor, and a part of the ceiling had fallen off. After running upstairs to alert my neighbor, I discovered that one of the pipes from the apartment above was loose. The event was a complete disaster, but slightly funny none the less. Everything has since been repaired, and minus a few more minor glitches, the apartment has become our home but a home that I'm sure will never cease to surprise us. Suggested Reading |
