Eek! You have a mouse! Live mouse traps are an ideal way for animal lovers to get rid of mice without killing them. They are curious explorers and will not be afraid to venture into strategically placed mouse traps.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 1-3 days, depending on the number of mice and mouse traps used

Here's How:

  1. Buy live mouse traps.

If you afford it, buy at least two mouse traps, even if you suspect only one mouse. This will increase your chances of the live trap being discovered.

  2. Put food source in them.

Most live traps consist of a platform on which you place food that will lure the mouse. Once the mouse steps onto the platform, the weight of the animal triggers the door to shut, thereby trapping the mouse without killing it.

  3. Place the mouse traps around the apartment.

Mice like to run along the edges of the room, so place the mouse traps lengthwise along the wall.

Good places to place the trap are near dark areas, such as by the couch, the dresser, or under the desk.

  4. Try different locations.

If, after a day and a night, your mouse traps are still empty, move the mouse trap to a different location. Keep in mind that the mouse may have found a new home.

  5. Release the mouse as soon as possible!

Mice run around at night and eat around dusk or dawn, so check the mouse traps in the morning and release them outside as soon as possible. Mice will die, if left too long in the traps.

Tips:

  1. According to Tomahawk Live Trap, "mice need a nesting place, and if they are exposed for a few hours, they might die. Therefore, it is always a good idea to place a cotton ball in back of the mouse trap so the mouse can curl up with the cotton ball."

  2. One of the best food sources for baiting mice is peanut butter.

  3. Place live mouse traps near where you last saw the mouse or by entrances into dark areas, such as by the couch, desk, or dresser.

  4. Online Vendors for Live Mouse Traps Online

What You Need:

  • At least one live mouse trap (more is preferable, but not neccessary)
  • Peanut butter
  • Ingenuity: trap placement is key. Try to think like a mouse
  • cotton balls
