Fair Housing Act

Definition: A federal law, passed in 1968 and amended in 1988, that protects prospects and tenants against housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status and disability. These groups of people are known as protected classes.
Also Known As: FHA, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968
