Once you and your roommates have unpacked all your boxes and settled into the new apartment, its time to invite friends over for a housewarming party. Not only will a housewarming party introduce your roommates, their friends and your friends to each other, itll make your new and possibly still strange apartment feel more like a home. The warmth of friends and the memories of the party will permeate your living space, and set the scene for future gatherings.
Invitations
Once youve set a date, send out invitations to all your friends and family. You can make your own invitations, or use Facebook or Evite. Specify whether this will be a dinner or a more casual affair that involves a lot of mingling. Either one will facilitate friends meeting, talking, and seeing your new apartment.Food and Drink
The world is your oyster when it comes to your partys menu. I recommend avoiding typical bowls of chips and popcorn. You can include such party staples, but nothing makes a party more memorable than serving good food that takes some preparation. It can still be easy, like veggies and dip or cheese and crackers. There should be a wide range of drinks, since this will be a mixed group. Offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, from juice to soda to beer to wine.Music
Work with your roommates to create a party mix on your iPod or computer. If you have different music tastes, heres a chance to get to know each other better by including song suggestions from all roommates.Throwing a party is an event that requires organization and planning. It's a great way to get to know your roommates and work on a project together. For more advice on putting together a great bash, check out Entertaining Guide Donna Pilato's tips.
