Questions to Ask One Another

So you're thinking of living with a roommate or two. In fact, you've found a few that you like and could see yourself living with. Before agreeing to rooming together, it's a good idea to discuss your lifestyle preferences. Set aside some time at a coffee shop, diner or even a park bench. Print out this list of questions to get the conversation rolling, and begin getting to know your future roommates.
  1. How clean do you prefer the common spaces to be?

  2. How often do you like to clean?

  3. How uncluttered do you like the apartment?

  4. Do you recycle?

  5. What are your pet peeves?

  6. What's your credit history like? Have you ever been late on rent before?

  7. Do you want and are willing to chip in for cable television or phone services?

  8. What's your sleeping schedule like?

  9. What's your work schedule like?

  10. Are pets okay?

  11. Are you okay with boyfriends or girlfriends staying over?

  12. What's your ideal common space like? Are you willing to spend money on communal furniture?

  13. What kind of bedroom do you want? How big?

  14. Are you okay with having guests stay over?

  15. Any restrictions when it comes to shared cookware? For example, is anyone a vegetarian that doesn't want meat on their cookware?
