Communication is key
- I've lived with perfect strangers and never had a fight with them. I've also lived with dear friends, and we drove each other up the wall. So it all comes down to chemistry. Whether you find potential roommates through friends or online/Craigslist, listen to your gut. If you're sensing future conflict with this person, chances are it'll happen. Try to find someone with whom you share at least some common interests. And when you're interviewing possible roommates, be sure to share your views on sharing food, houseguests, room temperature, bills, noise, etc. Agreeing on these things before you move in together can help prevent fights down the road.

I lucked out
- I replied to some Craigslist ads and found the right roommate within 2 weeks! You really learn a lot from meeting the person - don't spend forever emailing back and forth...

Go with what works
- I wound up in the same city as a college buddy who I roomed with, so we rented a 2BR and it's like old times.
